DePaul University’s Center for Writing-based Learning (UCWbL) staffs trained peer writing tutors to help writers of all skill levels at every stage of the writing process from idea generation to revision. From gaining a better understanding of an assignment to help with citation or grammar and mechanics, SNL students can work with tutors on a variety writing projects including essays, research papers, ILPs, and APs.
Writing Center Tutors meet face-to-face at the UCWbL’s Loop and Lincoln Park offices. Online support is available by email and instant messaging. Students can schedule appointments by using the Writing Center’s online scheduler. Outpost locations are also available at both campuses where no appointment is necessary.
To introduce your students to this wonderful resource consider requiring them to submit an assignment to the Writing Center for feedback or offering extra credit to students who use the Writing Center.

UCWbL Writing Groups are available for SNL students online and by-request. The University Center for Writing-based Learning (UCWbL) Writing Groups are a service offered through the Writing Center in which a Peer Writing Tutor facilitates discussion and review for a group of 3-6 writers in a supportive environment. These 90-minute meetings are scheduled on a weekly or biweekly basis for a set period of time as determined by the writers' deadlines and commitment levels. Each session usually combines discussion and feedback, although the focus is determined by the writers' needs, and the meeting's agenda is developed collaboratively by the facilitator and writers.
Writing Groups offer encouragement, genuine feedback, and an authentic audience of fellow writers. Writing Group members ask questions and offer suggestions that might help writers think through a project or clarify its purpose, intended audience, or goals.
Online Writing Group
Online Writing Groups allow SNL writers from Chicago and beyond to come together in a virtual setting to collaborate on their projects with a Writing Center tutor and fellow students. Google Hangouts is utilized to create a virtual meeting room for the online writing group. The group is available for all SNL students.

Incomplete Writing Boot Camps
Sponsored by School for New Learning Student Association (SNLSA) and SNL Writing, these SNL faculty-led camps are offered every quarter at SNL’s the Loop and Suburban campuses. Incomplete Boot Camps provide students with an opportunity to work on incomplete assignments with the assistance of SNL faculty and UCWbL peer tutors.
The Incomplete Writing Boot Camp Program is designed for SNL students who currently have incomplete grades on their transcripts and students working on incomplete writing assignments, including ILPs and APs. The camps aid students in completing their assignments by providing a dedicated time for them to work on their writing assignments in a supportive academic environment. Students can register for the camps or walk-in. There is no limit to the number of boot camps students can attend. In fact, many students often attend multiple camps.
Fall 2014 Incomplete Boot Camp Schedule
• Saturday, 11/8/14 – Naperville and Oak Forest
• Saturday, 11/15/14 – O’Hare
• Wednesday, 11/19/14 – Loop

To register, students should email their name, DePaul ID# and the incomplete course title(s) they wish to work on to firstname.lastname@example.org at least 3 days prior to the session they want to attend.
The Third Annual SNL Month of Writing
Once again, the SNL writing program has deemed October our “Month of Writing.” DePaul students, faculty, staff, alums, and friends are welcome to set a word count goal and write with us for the entire month. Together, our goal is to write one million words! Consider devoting October to one of those writing projects you have been putting off.
