Previewing the Academic Writing for Adults Proficiency Portfolio (L4)
This portfolio exam satisfies the Academic Writing for Adults / L4 competence and is designed for students who have extensive experience writing academic and professional papers. It may only be taken once.
In order to register for this exam, you must have successfully completed Learning Assessment Seminar and a subsequent Admissions Interview and been declared a fully admitted student by an SNL advisor.
There is a non-refundable fee of $150.
The exam is emailed as an attached Word document upon receipt of the application for the exam, which may be submitted at any time. Upon receipt of the exam, you have three weeks to complete and return the exam, which includes sending prior written papers as Word documents as well as a cover page.
New papers are not written for this exam. You are encouraged to review and revise papers before sending them.
If you do not receive the exam within five days of registering for it, please contact
snlexams@depaul.edu so that the exam may be re-sent. If you do not contact the office or do not submit the exam within three weeks of its being emailed to you, the exam grade will default to an F.
Exam results are emailed within five weeks of submission.
This exam may be taken only once.

It is important to preview the exam requirements with an understanding that you may have submitted a paper for a course that received an A for content, but that grade does not represent a thorough assessment of the quality of your written communication. Submitting papers that have received grades of A for content does not guarantee that you will pass the exam. Review your papers prior to submission to ensure they represent the kind of communications that is required based on the criteria specified for the exam. You may adjust the paper to improve it before submission, but you may not involve others in that work, including the Writing Center. All the work must be your own original work.
To register: If you decide that you want to submit your writing portfolio for this exam, then use
this registration form in Microsoft Word. Send the completed form to
snlexams@depaul.edu You will be sent a Word document containing portfolio specifications and have three weeks to complete the portfolio. You will receive your grade within five weeks of submission.

not begin the exam based on the
preview posted on the webpage. This preview is only intended to give students and idea of the components of the exam. The official copy will be e-mailed to you have may have some changes made to content and exam requirements. Upon receipt of this exam you have three weeks to complete and resubmit the portfolio.
