Students say:
“One of the highlights of [a Bridge class] was the diversity of the students in the class . . . . Through the reflections and opinions of others in the class, I got a great sense of how unique each intellect was. This was even true of the two professors through their teaching styles and personalities.”

“I liked having two very different perspectives from the professors.”

“This Bridge Program made me realize that we are all in this for the same thing – to further ourselves through education, and we all bring our unique contributions to the learning process.”

Bridging the Gap – Your Link to Academic Success

In Lifelong Learning at Its Best (1999), the Bridge program was called one of the best practices of collaborative models in the nation.

Truman College and SNL have been partners in the Bridge program since 1991. The program has since expanded to Wright College. A unique learning experience, the program combines City Colleges and DePaul resources to help students make a successful transition from one institution to the other.

This includes administrative cooperation, team-taught courses, intensive advising and guidance, a student progress tracking system, student-to-student support, student clusters, peer mentoring, and career-guidance. It is an ideal program for adults who have completed or are near completion of an Associate Degree.

The Bridge program is designed for adults age 24 and older who, because of demands on their time and financial resources, find it difficult to pursue a traditional path to a degree. By facilitating transition rather than transfer, the Bridge program assists students in developing their learning styles and finding ways of coping with fears and concerns in preparing for their long-term learning goals.

Team-taught courses are the driving force of the Bridge program. Students from the different institutions come together, supported by the commitment of Bridge faculty to multi-cultural diversity, social justice and student access to higher learning.

More than 79 Bridge courses have been offered to date with over 80 Bridge students earning DePaul degrees.   The university recently approved for the program to become dual admissions which solidifies the Bridge program's partnership with the City Colleges of Chicago.

Courses:
The Bridge program offers between six and ten courses every year. Team-taught by City College and DePaul faculty, each course meets initially at Truman or Wright College and then usually at DePaul's Loop Campus. SNL students can register for up to 3 competencies in a Bridge course. See registration information for current offerings.
