General Business (BA)

This degree, offered jointly by SNL and DePaul's Driehaus College of Business (COB), is designed to help further your career in business. You'll fulfill your liberal learning requirements through course work and documentation of the knowledge you've gained through life experience. You'll also take on-campus courses in the business disciplines of marketing, finance, accounting, management and economics and improve your skills in writing, calculus, information technology, planning and research. You may also earn a minor in a business topic area.

Degree requirements are met by:

  • documenting prior experience equivalent to college-level learning
  • including continuing professional education certifications
  • ongoing work experience
  • SNL proficiency exams
  • prior course work
  • SNL and COB courses

Personalized

You'll have your own advising committee composed of an SNL faculty member and a content expert in your field who help develop a plan to meet your goals, assess prior learning and give feedback.

Competence-based

The degree is earned after satisfying 50 requirements, written as statements describing competence. Certain competencies are met by specific courses or projects; others can be satisfied by relevant transfer courses or experience.

Online and On-Campus

The degree is delivered primarily on campus, but some courses are offered online. You may complete your SNL requirements by attending courses on campus, online or a combination of these formats. SNL campus-based courses meet either evenings or weekends at DePaul's Loop, Naperville, Oak Forest and O'Hare campuses. COB offers day and evening courses at the Loop Campus.

BA vs. BS in Business

DePaul offers two business degrees. For students preparing to begin careers, the traditional Bachelor of Science in Business offers broad-based study in business fundamentals and a chance to major in a business area through considerable quantitative study. For adults already in careers, the Bachelor of Arts in General Business joint degree provides broad-based study in core subjects, followed by individualized study based on work experience and strategic needs. It allows students to accelerate, re-direct or change careers as well as prepare for graduate school.
