Early Childhood Education (BA)

This information is provided for current active students in the program. New students and returning students can no longer be admitted to the program.

The degree, offered jointly by SNL and the College of Education, is designed to help adults working in early childhood education obtain certification to teach in Illinois. 

Degree requirements are met by:

  • documenting prior experience equivalent to college-level learning
  • including continuing professional education certifications
  • ongoing work experience
  • SNL proficiency exams
  • prior course work
  • SNL and COE courses 

The degree is earned after satisfying 50 requirements, written as statements describing competency. Certain competencies are met by specific courses or projects; others can be satisfied by relevant transfer courses or experience.
