Early Childhood Education (BA)

This program, offered jointly by SNL and DePaul's College of Education (COE), is designed to help adults working in early childhood education obtain certification to teach in Illinois. In addition to fulfilling your liberal studies requirements, you'll take courses on campus that cover the theory and practice of teaching young children.

Degree requirements are met by:

  • documenting prior experience equivalent to college-level learning
  • including continuing professional education certifications
  • ongoing work experience
  • SNL proficiency exams
  • prior course work
  • SNL and COE courses

You will have your own advising committee of faculty members and a content expert in your field who will develop an individualized learning plan which addresses academic skills, liberal arts content and a general business curriculum.

The degree is earned after satisfying 50 requirements, written as statements describing competency. Certain competencies are met by specific courses or projects; others can be satisfied by relevant transfer courses or experience.

Online and On-Campus

You can complete your SNL requirements by attending courses on campus, online or a combination of both. SNL campus-based courses meet either evenings or weekends at DePaul's Loop and O'Hare campuses. COE offers courses at the Loop or Lincoln Park campuses and, in some cases, online.
