APA Format Support

Scholarship in any field includes researching, understanding, referring to and building upon the work of others. SNL graduate programs require all students to use the citation format of the American Psychological Association (APA). This format enables the writer (emerging scholar) to appropriately and thoroughly reference materials and supports the reader in being able to secure the original sources to which the writer refers.

The definitive resource regarding APA format is:

American Psychological Association. (2010). Publication manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.). Washington, DC: Author.

The American Psychological Association also offers a helpful tutorial entitled “The Basics of APA Style,” which is available at http://www.apastyle.org.

Students can access additional resources regarding APA style by using various computer search engines and entering APA format as the search term. For example, the Purdue University Online Writing Lab offers an APA workshop at: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01.
